Awit ng Paghahangad (video)

Awit ng Paghahangad (PSALM 63)

O D'yos, Ikaw ang laging hanap.

Loob ko'y Ikaw ang tanging hangad.

Nauuhaw akong parang tigang na lupa

Sa tubig ng 'Yong pag-aaruga.

Ika'y pagmamasdan sa dakong banal

Nang makita ko ang 'Yong pagkarangal

Dadalangin akong nakataas aking kamay

Magagalak na aawit ng papuring iaalay.

Gunita ko'y ikaw habang nahihimlay

Pagka't ang tulong Mo sa twina'y taglay

Sa lilim ng Iyong mga pakpak,

Umaawit akong buong galak.

This piece is memorable to me because I taught this to my kids at HMS-Malolos.  We cried over this during one of those reflection times after lunch, just before Science.

Top 20 Movie FX suits

Top 20 Movie FX Suits!

In a time where computer generated graphics rule Hollywood, we thought it would be nice to compile a list of our favorite special effects suits. Some rules needed to be laid out. The first is that the suit must be wearable and cover head to toe. Second is one suit per movie. We didn’t want a list of Star Wars characters...

Star Wars Postal Stamps On The Way

Though this technically isn’t a gadget, we know every geek loves some Star Wars news! This summer, you’ll be able to pick up Yoda, Luke, and Leia all in the form of postal stamps. To celebrate the countless years of Star Wars in pop-culture, the US Postal Service will be issuing 15 unique stamps that feature different Star Wars characters. The set will go on sale May 25th and each stamp will cost 41 cents a piece (yes, they’re raising prices again). Says David Failor of the USPS:

“Because of the movies’ popularity, we believe these stamps have the potential of reaching the blockbuster status of the Elvis stamp, a milestone only the Force could attempt to surpass,”

Special sheets featuring all the stamps will be available, as well as pre-paid Express Mail packaging that will feature popular Wars characters. You can even vote for your favorite stamp at this USPS website! Talk about Star Wars excitement. If only we had the power of the force to skip those long lines whenever we visit our Post Office.

TheAnimationEmpire - Fruits VS Bugs: Episode 1

As we promised, here is an animation with the fruit characters in more of a "story." The Influence Bug and Trooper Bugs head out to Bobby Nelson's house to influence him to steal. It's up to the secret agent fruits, the Agents of the Spirit, to stop them! Thanks for the feature, YouTube! You're my hero.Of course, this wouldn't be a TheAnimationEmpire video without a double-dose of nonsense and nostalgia. Look for references to Loony Tunes, Indiana Jones, Charlie's Angels, Spiderman, Star Wars Episode 2, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, The Simpsons, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jurassic Park, Kung Pow, The Matrix, Super Mario Brothers (Bros.) and, of course, a lot of secret agent themes. Our preview for Episode 2 even references Batman, Toy Story, and several more Star Wars themes. Our work has been compared to Shrek, Disney, and Pixar films (Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Cars, etc.). We can tell the difference because we don't have their 80 million dollar budget. =^)Constructive comments only please!Want another 3D animation? View our first animation with the fruit characters. Floodgate

OpenFloodgate: Online Publishing with Control

floodgatelogo.pngOpenfloodgate, like Scribd, lets content creators publish their works to the web, but with decidedly more control. The site is the project of Tina Seelig, Executive Director of Stanford Technology Venture Partners and Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship. Recently released from beta about two weeks ago, OpenFloodgate currently features a variety of stories, poems, lyrics, photos, recipes, etc, uploaded by the site’s users. Once uploaded, each work can then be rated, downloaded as a pdf, and commented on by other users.

OpenFloodgate provides more control than other publishing sites. First, the site allows publishers to limit who can see their work to a group or just yourself. Also, unlike other document sharing sites, OpenFloodgate publishes every work as series of image files or PDFs, making it harder to plagiarize the author’s content. This puts OpenFloodgate, and sites like it, in a better position to handle the copyright woes that come along with user generated content and also eventually charge for the content down the road.

Finding Ithaca

Engineers to help find Homer's Ithaca (AP)

Amateur British archaeologist Robert Bittlestone looks through a book, in Athens, on Monday, March 26, 2007. Bittlestone has received backing from academics and engineering services company Fugro Group to test his theory that the island of Ithaca in Homer's 'The Odyssey' is in fact part of the larger island of Kefallonia, and became joined by land displacement caused by earthquakes. (AP Photo/Derek Gatopoulos)AP - A geological engineering company said Monday it has agreed to help in an archaeological project to find the island of Ithaca, homeland of Homer's legendary hero Odysseus. It has long been thought that the island of Ithaki in the Ionian Sea was the island Homer used as a setting for the epic poem "The Odyssey," in which the king Odysseus makes a perilous 10-year journey home from the Trojan War.

Dad Sings "Cherished Part of Me" to Andrea

Cherished Part of Me

You have a way about you
in the little things you do
You make me feel that I'm
especially dear to you
Oh when things go wrong
and there is no one to be found
It's so nice to know
You're always be around
There's something warm about your smile that comes so naturally
It is your charm, your thoughtful ways that move me constantly
Like a song, you will linger on and fill my memory
I know that you will always be,
A cherished part of me
You'll always be a cherished part of me.

(Words and music by Jose Mari Chan. Originally written for BPI. )

* This song is special for Andrea and I since when she was still a baby, everytime she cries loudly, or when she is about to sleep, I usually sing this song to her. This and "The Way You Look Tonight". She does not sleep immediately. She listens to my song. Just like me when I was young.

Hungry Minds Kids' Speeches - Culminating Activity

Free

On the first day of school, I was very nervous. I don’t know what will happen to me here in Hungry Minds. What if my teachers and classmates do not like me? What if I am unable to do the things they tell me to do? Then, slowly but surely, I realized that HMS is here to help us. It’s been a year now. Now, I feel more confident to do the things I never thought I can do. Now, I feel more focused in my dreams. I can dream bigger things and make bigger goals, because HMS is there to help me. I am free. We all are.

Journey

My teachers always tell us that Hungry Minds is like a journey for all of us. And what a journey it has been. Several times in the year, I was reprimanded for not being the boy I should be. We cried a lot, and we laughed a lot. We know we are just at the beginning. But our destination is much clearer now. We can dream big. We can reach our goals. This is our journey together.

Sangandaan

As we pause for a while in this journey, we rejoice. We rejoice at all the things we have accomplished this year. We also look back in sadness for all the things we did not do well. But that is why we reflect. In order to move on. Be better next year. This is the crossroads, where decisions are made. We will make that decision – to be successful as Hungry Minds believe we can be.

Do I Make You Proud?

HMS taught us to be confident of ourselves, and to stand tall amidst all obstacles, not to give up trying, even if the task is hard. We have finished this school year. We know we have yet to conquer a lot of things. I know we did our best. We just hope that all these make all of you proud.

Heal the World

I learned in HMS that we have a connection with everything else in the universe. As a physicist said, “When we pick up a flower, we move the farthest star”. The world is not a perfect world. It need not be. What is left for us to do is to change ourselves, so that the whole world can change as well. We can do it. We can heal the world.

We Can Make it Happen

Before I came to HMS, I have but little dreams. I know that somehow, God will help me, and I will be able to reach them. But this seemed so far away. What I learned this year is not to give up reaching for my dream. I have to hold on to my dream. We are all in this together. We can make it happen.

Jabberwocky

Jabberwocky

Lewis Carroll

(from Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There,1872)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought... (contd.)

...When Lewis Caroll wanted to use the right language, he just invented them.

Modern Heroes

Boston singer found dead

Boston Singer Found Dead

The man who helped put Boston on the map has journeyed on.

Singer Brad Delp was found dead Friday in his New Hampshire home by police who were responding to a 911 call for help, made around 1:20 p.m. ET. Delp was 55.

While the cause of Delp's death is still under investigation, according to a statement from the Atkinson Police Department, the state medical examiner's office doesn't suspect foul play and the musician looked to have been alone in his house when he died.

Boston, which at the time included Delp, producer-songwriter-guitarist Tom Scholz, drummer Sib Hashian, guitarist Barry Goudreau and bassist Fran Sheehan, hit it big in 1976 with their multiplatinum self-titled debut album, which featured the signature tunes "MoreThan a Feeling" and "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" and has sold more than 17 million copies.

300

300" racks up record body count at box office
Sunday March 11 1:41 PM ET

Heads rolled at the weekend box office in North America as the blood-soaked ancient epic "300" slaughtered its foes in spectacular fashion.

The grim warrior tale sold an estimated $70 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release, setting a new record for a March release, the film's distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday.

Heading into the weekend, the most bullish oracles had forecast an opening in the $50 million range. The special-effects extravaganza, with a largely unknown cast, cost in the mid-$60 million range to produce, the Time Warner Inc-owned studio said.

Scottish actor Gerard Butler stars as Leonidas, the hunky king of the Spartans, who leads 300 of his warriors to glorious death at the Battle of Thermopylae against a massive Persian army commanded by the fey king Xerxes (Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro). Zack Snyder ("Dawn of the Dead") directed the adaptation of comic book writer Frank Miller's graphic novel.

"300" earned largely positive reviews, despite or because of its myriad decapitations and balletic battlefield carnage. The last few chart-toppers, incumbent champ "Wild Hogs," "Ghost Rider" and "Norbit" were slammed by the critics.

FEMALE APPEAL

Audiences were "hungry to go to something that looks this unique," said Mark Canton, one of the film's producers.

Even though "300" is tailor-made for male moviegoers, it also rated highly with women, because the filmmakers enlarged the role of Leonidas' queen (played by Lena Headey) to make her a "true partner" of the king, Canton said.

Its achievement was all the more noteworthy given that the previous record-holder for the month, 2006's "Ice Age 2: The Meltdown," with $68 million, was a family-oriented cartoon, while "300" is an unabashedly gruesome spectacle with an "R" rating that prevents viewers under 17 attending without adult supervision.

In fact, the opening for "300" ranks as the third-highest for an R-rated movie, behind "The Matrix Reloaded" ($91 million) and "The Passion of the Christ" ($83 million).

"300" also opened in a few small Asian markets, and reaches Britain in two weeks, said Canton. Action-packed period epics, such as 2004's "Troy," often do much better overseas.

Walt Disney Co.'s surprise hit "Wild Hogs," starring John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, William H. Macy and Tim Allen as unlikely road warriors, slipped to No. 2 with $28 million; its 10-day total rose to $77.4 million.

The next three movies were separated by less than $100,000, and rankings could change when final data are released on Monday. Disney's childhood saga "Bridge to Terabithia" rose one to No. 3 with $6.9 million, followed by Columbia Pictures' Nicolas Cage action movie "Ghost Rider" and Paramount Pictures' serial-killer thriller "Zodiac" with about $6.8 million each.

"Bridge to Terabithia" has earned $67.0 million after four weeks, and "Ghost Rider" $104.1 million, also after four weeks. "Ghost Rider" is the first 2007 release to cross the century mark; the "Ice Age" sequel took the honors last year in the second week of April. "Zodiac" has $23.7 million after two weeks. Columbia Pictures is a unit of Sony Corp . Paramount Pictures is a unit of Viacom Inc.
