AFI's 100 Years of Musicals

Yesterday, we watched (for the 10th or so times) Moulin Rouge! upon the request of Andrea. I also found out that it is included in the American Film Institute's 100 Years of Musicals. It ranked 25th. The only other musical from 2000-present to be included in that list is Chicago at 12th position.

The top 10 are:

1.Singin' in the Rain
2. West Side Story
3. The Wizard of Oz
4. The Sound of Music
5. Cabaret
6. Mary Poppins
7. A Star is Born
8. My Fair Lady
9. An American in Paris
10. Meet Me in St. Louis

Chris Brown's Forever at Number one

According to MediaBase, as aired on its program American Top 40, the number one song in US for the week ending August 30, 2008 is .... (not much surprise)....

Forever by Chris Brown.

Chris Brown is probably THE artist of the year in terms of number one songs.  For the period covering January 1 - August 30, 2008, he has appeared in three (3) number one songs:

With You (5 weeks, March 22 to April 19)
No Air by Jordin Sparks (1 week, May 3) as featured artist
Forever (August 30 - )

*Chris Brown made his debut in the film "Stomp the Yard".  He is famous among American teens.  In 2007, he won the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Music: Male Artist, and R&B Artist.  This year, he won again in the Teen Choice Awards for R&B Track - "Forever", and for Rap/Hip Hop Track, "Shawty Get Loose" (shared with Lil Mama and T-Pain.

**Mediabase is a music industry website based on the monitoring of more than 1,800 radio stations across the US and Canada.

Kitten of war

The intelligence of animals goes beyond our need for war. It is something we will never ever surpass. (Image taken from http://parentsofdeployed.homestead.com)

My favorite movie

Just an expression. This is my favorite movie. From 1995 or so. Picture of the Year. Director of the Year for Mel Gibson. This picture made me realize my path. I am still treading it. And will exchange all the days of my life, for that chance - that one chance - when I will be able to shout to our enemies: You can take my life. But you can never take my Coke freedom!

Atheist Quotes

Quote Number 1 (of 101) The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality. - George Bernard Shaw

(from http://atheistblogger.com)

Reactions:

1. It is not a fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic. It can be argued, but may not be proved, even by research. How do you operationalize "happiness" or "happier"?
2. Skepticism is not equal to Atheism.
3. This may have inspired the Matrix Awakening.
4. I cannot argue for atheism on such a bad quote. Moving on. Did not hurt the enemy. At all.
5. The previous sentence of mine is intended to be vague. A clear statement does not hide my soberness.

Burger King > Big Mac, or so it says.

For the week ending August 22, Tropic Thunder is still number one in US box office, with a total gross of over US$65.6 Million to date. The movie was released 12 days ago, and stars Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey, Jr. (Data from The-Numbers.com)
